Patrol-Africa is deeply concerned about the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the resulting humanitarian crisis, which has claimed thousands of civilian lives including humanitarian workers’ lives. The escalating violence and loss of life in the country demand urgent action from the international community to bring about a ceasefire and foster dialogue between the warring parties and other stakeholders.
The situation in Sudan is dire, with innocent civilians and frontline humanitarian workers, bearing the brunt of the conflict. Thousands of people have been uprooted from their homes and forced to flee in neighbouring countries, while the very idea of Sudanese state is being fundamentally challenged by potential fragmentation and breakup.
It is imperative that all parties involved in this brutal and yet senseless conflict, prioritize the well-being of the Sudanese people and work towards a united, peaceful and prosperous country, capable to promote genuine reconciliation among its diverse people and groups, to help the country fully benefit from its diverse polity through peaceful coexistence. Patrol-Africa calls on all parties, most notably the warring parties to this conflict, to immediately cease hostilities and engage in meaningful dialogue to address the root causes of the conflict. Patrol-Africa would like to reiterate its strong belief that, there is no military solution, whatsoever, to this conflict.
Furthermore, Patrol-Africa urges regional and international actors to intensify their efforts to support a peaceful resolution in Sudan. All actors should reaffirm and redouble their efforts to support the Sudanese people in their quest for a united and prosperous country built on the respect for fundamental rights and freedoms and the rule of law. “This includes providing assistance to those affected by the conflict, facilitating dialogue between the parties, and promoting national reconciliation, underpinned by equality of citizenship for all Sudanese people”, said Justice Ben Kioko, President of Patrol Africa.
The people of The Sudan deserve peace, stability, and a brighter future. Patrol-Africa stands in solidarity with the Sudanese people and calls on all stakeholders to work together towards a sustainable and inclusive peace in the country.
