PATROL-AFRICA

The Pan-African Alliance for Transparency and Rule of Law

Congratulations to Ghanaians for maintaining a strong democratic process

Dec 9, 2024 | Press releases

PATROL-Africa congratulates Ghanaians on a peaceful change of yet another government in their country following the successful outcome of the presidential and parliamentary elections held on December 7.
Credit goes especially to Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia who conceded defeat even before the final results were announced.
In congratulating former President John Mahama, who will be sworn on January 7, 2025, PATROL-Africa commends Vice President Bawumia for displaying political maturity in Ghana, which has had unimpeachable democratic elections since 1992.
Crucially, we note that President-elect Mahama’s running mate, Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, will become Ghana’s first female Vice President.
Her elevation is coming in the wake of the election last week of Namibia’s first female President, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
This a clear sign that women in Africa are making a significant impression on the democratic process and rule of law on the continent.
